Pere Marquette Rail-Trail

Pere Marquette Rail-Trail Overview

The Pere Marquette Rail-Trail is a paved 30 mile trail located in Michigan that starts in Midland, Mi and goes to just outside Clare, Mi. This popular and fun trail follows the former route of the Flint and Pere Marquette Railroad.

The trail has much to see passing through the towns of Midland, Stanford, Coleman, and Claire. Additional connections are hoped for Farwell, Evart, Reed City and Ludington.

The trail stops at many parks and recreation areas that include Veterans Memorial Park, Sandford Lake County Park the Pine Haven Recreation Area, Emerson Park and the Banking Grounds in Averill. Sanford Lake County Park has picnic areas, playgrounds, a 1000 foot swimming beach, boat launches, and restrooms. The Arbutus Bog (about 10 miles from Midland) features a boardwalk that visitors can use to venture out into the bog without disturbing this habitat.

The trail offers good access to food, restrooms and provisions.
